Spacecraft represent the most pressing unmet need across the entire aerospace industry. As more launch vehicles come online and the cost to orbit decreases, more companies launching payloads to space continue to emerge.

For the first time in history, this influx of payload companies combined with reduced launch costs has resulted in a massive increase in need for commercial spacecraft platforms, known as satellite buses. These buses hold the payloads of our customers and are flown on launch vehicles.

Apex manufactures these satellite buses at scale using a combination of software, vertical integration, and hardware that is designed for manufacturing. Our spacecraft enable the future of society: ranging from earth observation to communications and more.

We’d love for you to join us on our mission of providing humankind access to the galaxy beyond our planet.

About the Role

Apex Space is seeking a highly skilled and experienced RF Technician to join our dynamic team. As an RF Technician, you will play a key role in the integration, testing, and validation of RF systems on board our spacecraft and on the development bench. Your expertise will directly impact mission success by ensuring high-performance communication and signal integrity for our satellite platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) activities for spacecraft RF systems, including antennas, filters, amplifiers, and transceivers.

  • Execute RF system validation, including signal path testing, performance measurements, and troubleshooting using specialized RF test equipment.

  • Install and route coaxial cables, waveguides, and connectors in accordance with engineering specifications and best practices.

  • Conduct RF-related environmental and functional tests, including signal continuity, VSWR, S-parameter sweeps, and channel power measurements.

  • Work closely with RF engineers, avionics teams, and other technicians to ensure seamless integration of RF subsystems into spacecraft platforms.

  • Calibrate and operate RF test equipment such as vector network analyzers (VNA), spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and power meters.

  • Maintain test setups and equipment, ensuring accurate data collection and documentation of test results, anomalies, and repairs.

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of RF test procedures, work instructions, and system documentation.

  • Support EMI/EMC testing efforts and antenna pattern measurements when applicable.

  • Maintain cleanroom and lab protocols, ensuring ESD safety, equipment handling standards, and contamination control.

  • Recommend and implement improvements to RF assembly and test workflows to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reliability.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export-controlled data.

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in RF integration and test, preferably in the aerospace or satellite communications industry.

  • Proficiency in operating RF test equipment, including VNAs, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators.

  • Strong understanding of RF system concepts, including impedance matching, signal loss, modulation, noise, and filtering.

  • Hands-on experience with coaxial cables, antennas, and RF connectors in flight or test environments.

  • Familiarity with space-rated RF components and hardware, including performance testing under thermal and vacuum conditions.

  • Ability to read and interpret RF schematics, block diagrams, and engineering drawings.

  • Strong attention to detail and troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving RF performance issues.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

  • Commitment to safety, quality standards, and adherence to aerospace testing protocols.

  • Experience working in cleanroom or controlled environments preferred.
