About the Company

Armada is an edge computing startup that provides computing infrastructure to remote areas where connectivity and cloud infrastructure is limited, as well as areas where data needs to be processed locally for real-time analytics and AI at the edge. We’re looking to bring on the most brilliant minds to help further our mission of bridging the digital divide with advanced technology infrastructure that can be rapidly deployed anywhere.

About the role

Armada builds next-generation modular data center infrastructure that combines compute, cooling, and power into deployable systems for high-performance environments. Our mission is to simplify the way AI and cloud infrastructure is deployed faster, denser, and more efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of reliability and performance.

We’re growing quickly and are looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer who can help shape the electrical backbone of our modular data center platforms.

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will lead power architecture and integration across Armada’s modular systems from utility interconnect through switchgear, distribution, and rack-level delivery.

You’ll work closely with mechanical, compute, and systems engineering teams to design efficient, code-compliant power systems that scale globally. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of data center electrical engineering, modular design, and high-density computing infrastructure.

Location. United States (Seattle, Denver, Remote within U.S. time zones)

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Own the design and validation of full-scope electrical systems, including utility tie-in, transformer, switchgear, UPS, PDUs, and rack-level power distribution.
  • Develop and maintain single-line diagrams, load flow and short-circuit studies, and arc-flash/coordination analyses. Create and review CAD markups (AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP) to ensure design accuracy and cross-discipline alignment.
  • Apply and enforce OCP (Open Compute Project) standards for power delivery, rack busways, ORV3 power shelves, and open-rack architecture.
  • Interface with utilities, land development engineers, and contractors to validate interconnects, metering, and compliance.
  • Review vendor submittals for switchgear, power shelves, CDUs, and cable assemblies to ensure design compatibility.
  • Support FAT/SAT, commissioning, and field QA/QC processes to verify design intent.
  • Establish internal electrical standards, design templates, and specification guides to accelerate future deployments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (PE license preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in data center, industrial, or utility-scale electrical system design.
  • Deep understanding of OCP power distribution standards (Open Rack v3, ORV3 busbars, power shelves, connectors, safety protocols). Expertise in medium- and low-voltage systems (5 kV–480 V) and 48 V DC distribution.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, and power modeling tools such as SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE 1100, and UL standards.
  • Proven experience with grounding/bonding, fault-current coordination, and power redundancy design.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with modular or containerized power systems.
  • Experience coordinating with utilities and developers for site metering and tie-in validation.
  • Familiarity with liquid-cooled or high-density compute environments (50 kW+ racks).
  • Working knowledge of AI/HPC electrical load planning and thermal-electrical integration.

Why Join Armada

  • Join a fast-growing team defining the future of modular data center infrastructure.
  • Work on power systems that directly support AI, HPC, and edge innovation.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team in a high-impact, low-bureaucracy environment.
  • Competitive compensation, equity opportunity, and benefits that scale with you.
