Role: Senior Vehicle UX/UI Designer

Location: San Diego, CA

Salary: $130,000 - $190,000 / yr + stock options, 401k matching, and other benefits.

Role Overview:

The vehicle user interface team is responsible for building the command center for our ASVs -- the essential tool operators use to monitor and control every mission. Our operators and our customers rely on the vehicle interface to present complex vessel data clearly and intuitively, whether they’re navigating through crowded harbors or operating with limited communication hundreds of miles offshore.

As part of the team, you’ll build a deep understanding of our ASVs’ capabilities, the vision behind them, and the realities that operators experience when using them. Armed with this knowledge, you’ll work to design an interface that presents complex vessel data clearly and intuitively and also feels natural to experienced operators and first-time operators alike. You’ll collaborate closely with software engineers, roboticists, test engineers, and field operators to ensure the solutions that you design works smoothly in both theory and practice.

Role Details:

As the Senior UX/UI Designer, you will help guide the User Interface Team to refine the next stage of ocean autonomy helm / mission-control software. On a day-by-day basis, you will:

  • Partner with UI developers and leadership to drive UX direction and raise the bar for vehicle UI clarity, speed, and reliability
  • Produce low fidelity mockups to align on direction with stakeholders
  • Deliver high fidelity mockups and user flows to software developers
  • Interview operators to find bottlenecks, pain points, and opportunities, and translate findings into prioritized design work
  • Validate designs through lightweight usability tests
  • Design graphic assets for use in the vehicle UI
  • Help evolve our design system (components, patterns, and visual standards) to keep the product consistent as it grows

About You:

  • 7+ years of experience designing responsive software interfaces
  • An unassailable drive toward clarity in design, action, and thought
  • Understanding of user intuition, habits, and perception
  • Practice in usability interviews including A/B testing or other structured evaluation methods
  • Experience working with developers to implement design systems
  • A command of vital tools such as Figma and Illustrator

In addition, it’s nice (though not essential) if you have:

  • Experience with real-time data, control systems, or physical robotics platforms
  • Background in maritime systems or mission control environments
  • Experience with data visualization or telemetry dashboards

About Seasats:

At Seasats, we're passionate about delivering maritime robotics solutions to redefine the maritime industry. Our primary products are autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs), designed to carry sensors at sea for months at a time. Our ASVs provide persistent monitoring and data acquisition to defense, scientific, and commercial customers, and have autonomously crossed both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. After thousands of years in which the only way to gather information from the ocean was to put people on a boat, these uncrewed vessels are transforming how humanity monitors and interacts with the ocean. Here, you’ll find the space and opportunity to do your life’s best work.

Along with your salary, you’ll receive perks including:

  • Competitive insurance (including a 99% employer-covered Gold HMO plan or other options)
  • 401k matching up to 4% of salary
  • Four free lunches per week
  • An employee activity fund
  • A pet-friendly office
  • Unlimited/Flex PTO
